The Ridin` Rebbe Cross-Country Bicycle Tour 2004

Dedicated to the Memories of David Nehmer & Jordan Fish

Daily Update Report

Date: Tuesday, July 27, 2004  -- 1 PM  The official last day of the Tour

Location: Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, FL:  waiting for our flight home

Here we sit waiting to board our flight back to NJ, mixed emotions.  First, my normal anxiety about flying, and then there are the emotions of the impact of what has been accomplished and the return to home.  I have been gone a long time it seems, but really only 6 weeks - what a 6 week period of time it has been.  Of course, getting back to my Temple Study and back to taking care of what needs to be taken care and preparation for the High Holidays - they are just around the corner!

I do look forward to seeing everyone and getting back to routine.

I do want to share a brief note from Sunday, the 25th.  I left St. Augustine by bicycle and Genya met me in Daytona Beach Shores - a quick wash up in a local fast food joint and then onto to West Palm Beach.  While on the ride along the A1A, I spied just ahead of me 3 bicyclists, moving at a good clip using pace-line technique; each takes a turn in front to bear the brunt of the wind, which allows the group to maintain a stronger pace.. I picked up my pace and caught up with them and chatted a spell before I pulled ahead and continued alone.  The 3 were on their 50th day of riding on behalf of the Make A Wish Foundation from Anchorage, AL to Miami, FL!  They were averaging 120 - 150 miles a day, a phenomenal pace (they were in their mid 20's)!  They also had a support vehicle available on the route.  I told them what I had just finished doing, wished them well and sped off.

No pictures today.

As a reminder, if you have not already done so, it is still possible to send in your pledge, or to increase one already made.  Your contributions are greatly appreciated and will do immense good.  In addition, please feel free to forward these updates along and to encourage others to contribute.  If you know someone who should be sent a Ride Brochure, please let Tammy in the Temple Office – (973) 376 0539 x 11 and one will be sent right out.
